Let’s talk about what It Ends with Us is about and why it’s become such a massive hit.

 1. Who Wrote the Book It Ends with Us?
 2. What is The Book It Ends with Us About?
 3. Is It Ends with Us the First Book?
 4. How Many Books Are in the It Ends with Us Series?
 5. What Genre is the Book It Ends with Us?
 6. Is the Book It Ends with Us Good?
 7. What Book Comes After It Ends with Us?
 8. Should You Read It Ends with Us?

Who Wrote the Book It Ends with Us?

It Ends with Us was written by Colleen Hoover, a best-selling author and major figure in modern romance. Known for stories that explore real-life situations, struggles, and emotions, Hoover’s writing is emotional, raw, and often tear-inducing. Many of her fans love her for the way she portrays relationships with an honesty that makes readers feel, love, and sometimes cry alongside the characters.

Colleen Hoover has written and published many other bestsellers. She’s actually one of the bestselling authors of 2023 and 2024. During these last few years, Hoover has gained immense popularity on platforms like BookTok, the book-focused side of TikTok. Here, a new generation of readers has discovered her work.

If you enjoy stories that take you on an emotional rollercoaster – often with lots of romance – then Colleen Hoover is an author worth checking out.

What is The Book It Ends with Us About?

Without giving away too much, It Ends with Us follows a young woman named Lily Bloom as she is trying to deal with her career, love life, and the lingering effects of her past. She’s working to build a life she can be proud of when she meets Ryle, a charismatic neurosurgeon. As their relationship develops, she starts to question what she really wants from love and life. Something that adds to the whole emotional rollercoaster and mess, is that her first love, Atlas, reappears.

This story is not your typical romance…it’s a realistic, messy, and sensitive depiction of relationships and love that challenges you. There are themes of love, self-discovery, resilience in the face of hardship, and yes, also domestic violence, woven throughout. Hoover has been praised for handling these sensitive topics with honesty and respect.

Is It Ends with Us the First Book?

Yes, It Ends with Us is the first book in the storyline, but due to its popularity and the demand for more, Colleen Hoover released a follow-up titled It Starts with Us. This sequel provides fans with additional insight into Lily’s story. If you’ve read It Ends with Us and find yourself wanting more (which is likely), you’ll be glad to know there’s a sequel to satisfy your curiosity. However, we won’t be discussing the plot of this book further to avoid any spoilers.

How Many Books Are in the It Ends with Us Series?

Currently, there are two books in this It Ends with Us book series, which are both on the list of the best BookTok books of 2023 and 2024:

At the moment, it doesn’t appear that any additional books will be added to the It Ends with Us book series, but this two-part series already gives readers the full arc of Lily’s story. It includes both her struggles and her growth over time.

What Genre is the Book It Ends with Us?

It Ends with Us spans multiple genres and could be classified as contemporary romance, though it has a twist. It’s not lighthearted – rather, it’s emotionally intense and addresses serious issues like trauma, domestic violence, and resilience.

Colleen Hoover doesn’t shy away from these heavy topics, which is why her books resonate with so many readers. They appreciate romance novels that feel real and thought-provoking. For some, this story might even be relatable in a way that makes it meaningful to see someone else’s story, their decisions, and their growth.

Is the Book It Ends with Us Good?

Good? Well, according to thousands of readers and viral BookTok videos, it’s more than just good — it’s gripping. Fans of the book praise Hoover for her unique storytelling and her ability to evoke genuine emotion. Many readers find the book powerful, heart-wrenching, and surprisingly relatable.

However, this book may not be for everyone. It can be a heavy read and touches on difficult themes. For some readers, it may be too emotionally intense or too relatable. If you’re looking for a light, breezy romance, this is not the book for you.

But if you’re in the mood for a book that stays with you long after you finish reading, then It Ends with Us might be worth picking up.

What Book Comes After It Ends with Us?

After It Ends with Us, the sequel It Starts with Us doesn’t go into Lily’s backstory but instead picks up exactly where the first book leaves off. Without revealing spoilers, it gives readers a chance to see how Lily continues to grow and heal. It’s perfect for those who finished It Ends with Us and weren’t quite ready to leave Lily’s world.

Should You Read It Ends with Us?

If you’re undecided, the quick answer is yes — give it a try. It Ends with Us offers a different perspective on romance. It’s more of a realistic look at life, love, loss, and resilience.

However, if you’re a very young reader or feel that topics like domestic violence might be a trigger, you may want to skip this one. In that case, there are many other lighthearted Colleen Hoover books to explore instead – check out the best Colleen Hoover books, in our opinion.

Yellowface

by R. F. Kuang

Yellowface by R.F. Kuang will be a captivating read for sure. The book cover is beautiful and intriguing, so it’ll certainly pick your curiosity. Many people can be both curious and skeptical to pick it up, given that the internet can be a weird place and bestsellers are often the worst. But not Yellowface; it is an absolute delight!

What makes the book so great? The title is clever and relevant to current times, and the storytelling is captivating and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Themes of racism, cultural appropriation, and the workings of the American book publishing industry open the mind while providing A-class entertainment. The lead character, June Hayward, aka Juniper Song Hayward, is a talented manipulator and a finely crafted character. Though the second lead is equally notorious, she is not the narrator, so that will have to remain a mystery.

Yellowface will resonate with readers of all backgrounds. The novel is full of heart and emotion, and it is sure to leave readers changed after they finish reading it. All in all, a must-read!

Verity

by Colleen Hoover

In our last novel in this list, Colleen Hoover weaves an intricate web of suspense, mystery, and romance that will leave you breathless. The story in Verity revolves around Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is given the opportunity of a lifetime when she is asked to complete the bestselling series of the famed author Verity Crawford, who is unable to do so herself. As Lowen delves into Verity’s unfinished manuscript, she uncovers dark secrets that threaten to unravel her own sanity. With unexpected twists and turns, the plot keeps readers guessing until the very end.

The characters in Verity are quite complex. Lowen is a relatable protagonist, driven by her passion for writing and her zeal to uncover the truth. Verity, on the other hand, is an enigmatic and manipulative character, making readers question her every move. The chemistry between Lowen and Jeremy, Verity’s husband, adds an element of forbidden romance, heightening the tension and suspense.

This book will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers and those who enjoy books with a touch of romance. Hoover’s writing style is engaging and immersive, drawing readers into the story from the first page. The pacing is perfect, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger, making it difficult to put the book down.

@katiehoneyy I haven’t said wtf this much at a book since Verity- Never Never was so good! It follows a boy and a girl who have known each other their whole life and have been in a relationship for four years when, one day in history class, they lose their memories. There is so much to this plot but if I say anything else it will be a spoiler and I don’t want to ruin it because, when I was reading it, it genuinely felt like there was a new twist every 5 minutes!! For me, I absolutely loved this book, I was hooked from the first chapter and I know I’m not going to stop talking about it for weeks!! &lt3 #books #booktok #booktoker #bookreview #bookreviewer #foryou #foryoupage #fyp #bookrecs #bookrecommendations #bookish #colleenhooverbooks #coho #colleenhoover #nevernever #tarrynfisher #neverneverbook ♬ ceilings – Sped Up Version – Lizzy McAlpine

Best Colleen Hoover Books to Read in 2025 https://bsblog.wpenginepowered.com/best-colleen-hoover-books/ Fri, 30 Dec 2022 13:37:47 +0000 https://bsblog.wpenginepowered.com/?p=4484 Best Colleen Hoover Books

Can you name an author with a stronger BookTok presence than the inimitable Colleen Hoover? I certainly can’t. Colleen’s contemporary fiction often depicts young people’s lives and loves as they navigate crises, relationships, and burgeoning adulthood.

It’s hard to believe that a mere decade ago, Hoover self-published her first novel, Slammed. That’s right, SELF-PUBLISHED! The woman published some 123,000 words on paper on Amazon Kindle.

After a few great reviews and Amazon sales, Colleen Hoover’s first two novels were propelled onto The New York Times Bestsellers List. From there, she was just a hop, skip, and jump away from dominating TikTok’s literary pocket’s algorithm. Though she has written over twenty books, let’s take a moment to talk about our favorites.

Best Colleen Hoover Books

SlammedSlammed

It’s best to start at the beginning. In 2012, Hoover published Slammed as an eBook simply for the convenience of her mother, who had just purchased an Amazon Kindle.

Slammed centers on Layken, a bereaved 18-year-old struggling to cope with the sudden death of her father. Things start to look up for Layken after a whirlwind date with an attractive, slam-poetry-loving new neighbor. But things quickly fall apart when a shocking twist forces Will and Layken apart.

Slammed is, first and foremost, an exploration of grief and, no matter how heartbreaking, how it can deeply bond two grieving people. This book is the first in the Slammed series, followed by Point of Retreat and This Girl.

Ugly LoveUgly Love

Ugly Love, published in 2018, is not about love at first sight. Tate Collins and Miles Archer do not like each other, but they indeed find one another quite attractive. That leads them to a perfect arrangement: No love—just sex. Of course, you and I, reader, both know that such an arrangement is bound to fail…or maybe succeed?

In any case, Tate and Miles soon learn that their situation is much more complicated than they thought, and it’s now up to them to navigate the emotional mess they have created.

Reminders of HimReminders of Him

In 2022’s Reminders of Him, Colleen writes about the life of Kenna Rowan, who is seeking redemption and desperate to find her daughter after serving a five-year prison sentence. But Kenna is all alone. Everyone she knew before prison seemed very unenthused to rebuild any sort of relationship with her, let alone help her find her 4-year-old daughter.

Everyone but Ledger, a local bar owner, and Kenna’s only ally. However, Ledger’s involvement isn’t without risks, as both stand to lose everyone’s trust and their future if their relationship goes further.

Additionally, Reminders of Him is ranked as one of the best-selling books of 2023.

It Ends with UsIt Ends with Us

It Ends with Us starts with a casual fling between flower shop owner Lily and hotshot neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid.

Their relationship proves to be a bit more than a fling, but Lily can’t seem to let go of a past flame from her teenage years. To make matters more complicated, Lily is still grappling with difficult emotions about her late father and cannot help but question this new relationship with Ryle. And then, just like that, the old flame reappears.

Here is another of Colleen’s heart-wrenching novels that doesn’t shy away from difficult themes. It Ends with Us is the first in a series as well. Check the review for It Ends with Us to learn more about the book.

This is an impossibly short list of Colleen Hoover’s most loved contemporary novels. Colleen’s novels seem to have an indescribable element that resonates so well and so deeply with this generation of readers. We love these ones, but there are so many more to discover and enjoy. If you’re on TikTok, I’m sure you already know that. ]]> 5 of the Best: Spicy #Booktok Books https://bsblog.wpenginepowered.com/spicy-booktok-books/ Mon, 12 Dec 2022 11:05:49 +0000 https://bsblog.wpenginepowered.com/?p=4375

What does ‘spicy’ mean to you? A fluid, sometimes contentious definition amongst Booktok-ers, Reddit-ors, Tumblr-ites and even the (usually) gentler denizens of Goodreads, this romance novel subgenre covers a surprising range.

For some, ‘spice’ might be anything more than coy, bedroom-door-closed, fade-to-black hints at (vanilla) sexual congress between leads, for others, no less than the darkest hinterlands of kink, dirty talk occasionally dubious consent and explicitly anatomical description will do. It’s also a definition that’s loose, welcoming, and democratic enough to take in sex more likely to feature participants of colour, LGBTQ partners, a spectrum of abilities and body types, as well as humour and dalliances with mythology or the supernatural.

Spicy books can, much like fan-fiction and the best of fandom overall, provide many readers with a space for smut, served with a judgement-free side order of progressiveness and self-discovery.

Curating our selection from the best rated on Goodreads and #Booktok, here’s 5 titles including some for those just getting started with Spice, and for those seeking stronger, harder fare.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood – with a sparkly, STEM-set plot and a heroine who might be demisexual, maybe even a touch neurodivergent, our first pick’s a little reminiscent of a mainstream hit: Graeme Simsion’s The Rosie Project.

A female-centric spin on what might happen if a coolly scientific approach were applied to sex and attraction, this one might also require actual scientists and those of a strictly logical bent to firmly suspend their disbelief. Not least because ‘Stanford’s reigning lab tyrant’ possesses washboard abs to go with his curmudgeonly personality. The Love Hypothesis also has said curmudgeon agree to participate in that most solid-gold of rom-com tropes: a fake relationship, here with PhD candidate and relationship sceptic Olive.

7th Circle by Tate James (Hades Book 1) – Promising grit and danger of several different kinds, this series from a much loved Spice author introduces Hayden Darling Timber, known as Hades. She’s the leather-clad, hard-drinking gangland boss with strong views on ethical sex work and a connoisseur’s appreciation for the male form.

Set in the same universe as Tate’s earlier Madison Kate series, 7th Circle shares several key features, including a touch of casual violence and Tate’s trademark ratcheting of sexual tension between enemies and friends to near operatic levels.

The Risk by S.T. Abby – a dark, contemporary revenge fantasy, The Risk has Lana, a vigilante serial killer, sailing close to the wind in bedding Logan, the criminal profiler aiming to bring her to justice. Of course, much tension comes from our heroine staying one step ahead and concealing her homicidal secret identity from her law-abiding partner. Reading like an ultraviolent plot arc from pretty profiler shows like Criminal Minds with a wonky moral compass and a lot more skin, The Risk also plays in the Dexter Morgan and Villanelle sandbox, with feeling.

The Fight Game: 5 Rounds by Nikki Castle – a good-old fashioned enemies-to-lovers plot, dropped into an atypical setting: 5 Rounds has friction between an arrogant fighter working the mixed martial arts circuit and his reluctant roommate erupt into passion. Castle’s series opener draws on her personal experience around MMA fighters and gyms, dropping in plenty of convincing details for fans of the sport and sport-set romances.

Her driven, career focussed heroine, Remy, resents being treated as a mere inconvenient distraction by Tristan, an athlete on the path to world-championship glory. Of course, though their path to love proves challenging, much fierce verbal sparring and mutual annoyance can’t help but grow into more.

It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey – lighter, brighter brushstrokes round out our five (as well strokes of other kinds) from the ‘Michaelangelo of dirty talk’. Bailey’s warm, breezy rom com guarantees a happy ending and love across the class divide. After one party too many, spoiled socialite Piper finds herself banished to Westport, a small town in Washington state.

She’s tasked with running her stepfather’s bar and developing some all-important life skills in the process. Enter one bearded, cynical fisherman with little time for cityfied influencers from LA landing in his beloved town. Cue much fish-out-of-water silliness and some familiar small-town quirkiness, in a familiar, gently spiced and comforting blend. ]]>
